The Canon IX-6860 takes the Canon PGI650 ink cartridges.  You can choose from high capacity XL compatible cartridges or genuine Canon cartridges from Affordable Ink.  Compatible PGI650 cartridges are significantly cheaper than genuine Canon cartridges with the price of a set of cartridges being close to the price of a single genuine cartridge.

The ink capacity of a compatible and a genuine cartridge are the same.    The high capacity cartridges usually have 50 - 100% more ink than standard cartridges.   In our experience there is no noticeable difference in print quality between a genuine and a compatible cartridge.
