Drum Reset Procedure for Brother Laser Printers

When you install a new Drum unit in a Brother Laser printer a drum reset is required. You must tell the printer that the drum unit has been replaced.  It is only necessary to replace the drum unit when the drum warning light comes on, this is usually every 5 – 6 toners.   

When you replace a toner cartridge the counter is automatically reset, but when changing the drum unit, it is up to you to tell the printer the drum has been changed.  If you do not do this the drum unit will show that it needs to be replaced in a very short time.  Brother is the only manufacturer that uses a separate drum and toner unit, with other manufacturers combining the two into one replaceable cartridge. 

The procedures for different printers are outlined below.  Note: the printer must be turned on before trying any of the resets below. 

Drum Reset after replacing the DR1070 drum unit in any of these printers:  Brother HL1110, HL1210W

  1. Open the top cover
  2. Press the Power button 4 times
  3. Close the top cover

The reset has been completed

After replacing the DR1070 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother DCP1510, DCP1610W, MFC1810, MFC1910W

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the Up Arrow key to find Machine Info
  3. Press Ok
  4. Press the Up Arrow key to find Reset Drum
  5. Press Ok for 3 seconds
  6. Press the Up Arrow key to reset the drum unit counter
  7. Press Stop/Exit.

You have completed the drum reset

Drum Reset after replacing the DR2025 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother HL2030, HL2040, HL2045, HL2070, HL2075

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press and hold the Go button until all the LED’s light up (about 4 seconds)
  3. Release the Go button
  4. Close the front cover

The reset has been completed

After replacing the DR2025 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother DCP7010, DCP7020, DCP7025, MFC7225, MFC7420, MFC7820

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press Options
  3. Press 1 (or the Up Arrow if no keypad) until display shows Accepted
  4. Close the front cover

You have completed the drum reset

Drum Reset after replacing the DR2125 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother HL2140, HL2150N, HL2170

  1. Open the front cover and you will see a white button
  2. Press and hold the White button until all the LED’s light up (about 4 seconds)
  3. Release the White button
  4. Close the front cover

The reset has been completed

After replacing the DR2125 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother DCP7030, DCP7040, MFC7045, MFC7320, MFC7340, MFC7440, MFC7840

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press Clear/Back button until Replace Drum message displays
  3. Press 1 (or the Up Arrow if no keypad) until display shows Accepted
  4. Close the front cover

You have completed the drum reset

Drum Reset after replacing the DR2225 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother HL2130, HL2240D, HL2250DN, HL2270DW

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press and hold the Go button until all the LED’s light up (about 4 seconds)
  3. Release the Go button
  4. Close the front cover

The reset has been completed

After replacing the DR2225 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother DCP7055, DCP7065DN, MFC7360N, MFC7860DW

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press Clear/Back button until Replace Drum message displays
  3. Press 1 (or the Up Arrow if no keypad) until display shows Accepted
  4. Close the front cover

You have completed the drum reset

Drum Reset after replacing the DR2315 drum unit in Brother HL2300DW

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press and hold the Go button until all the LED’s light up (about 4 seconds)
  3. Release the Go button
  4. Close the front cover

The reset has been completed

After replacing the DR2315 drum unit in any of these printers:  Brother HLL2340DW, HLL2365DW

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press Ok button until display shows Drum Unit (about 2 seconds)
  3. Press Ok
  4. Press Up Arrow  to Reset
  5. Close the front cover

You have completed the drum reset

After replacing the DR2315 drum unit in Brother MFCL2700DW

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press and hold Ok button until display shows Reset (about 2 seconds)
  3. Press 1 (or the Up Arrow) to Reset
  4. Close the front cover

You have completed the drum reset

Drum Reset after replacing the DR2415 drum unit in Brother HLL2310D

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press and hold the Go button until all the LED’s light up (about 4 seconds)
  3. Release the Go button
  4. Close the front cover

The reset has been completed

After replacing the DR2415 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother HLL2375DW, MFCL2713DW

  1. Close the front cover
  2. Press Ok and the Up Arrow key at the same time
  3. Press Ok to select Drum
  4. Press the Up Arrow to reset  (HLL2375DW may be the Down Arrow)

You have completed the drum reset

After replacing the DR2415 drum unit in Brother MFCL2770DW

  1. Close the front cover
  2. Press Cancel
  3. Press and hold Toner button (about 5 seconds)
  4. Press Drum
  5. Press Yes

You have completed the drum reset

Drum Reset after replacing the DR3325 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother HL5440D, HL5450DN, HL5470DW, HL6180D

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Depending on printer model
    • If LCD display – Press and hold Go button until display shows Drum Clear
    • If No display – Press and hold Go button until all the LEDs light up (about 4 seconds) 
  3. Release Go button
  4. Close the front cover

The reset has been completed

After replacing the DR3325 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother DCP8155DN, MFC8510DN, MFC8910DW, MFC8950DW

No Touchscreen Display

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press Clear
  3. Press 1 until display shows Accepted

Touchscreen Display

  1. Press Stop/Exit to interrupt the error temporarily
  1. Press Menu
  2. Press the Up Arrow key to display Machine Info
  3. Press Machine Info
  4. Press Reset Menu
  5. Press Drum until display shows Reset Drum?
  6. Press Yes
  7. Press Stop/Exit

You have completed the drum reset

Drum Reset after replacing the DR3415 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother HLL5100DN, HLL5200DW

  1. Open the front cover
  2. Press and hold Ok to display Drum Unit (about 2 seconds)
  3. Press Ok
  4. Press Up Arrow to Reset
  5. Close the front cover

The reset has been completed

After replacing the DR3415 drum unit in any of these printers: Brother HLL6200DW, HLL6400DW, MFCL5755DW, MFCL6700DW, MFCL6900DW

  1. Close the front cover
  2. Press Settings and then All Settings if displayed
  3. Press Machine Info
  4. Press Parts Life
  5. Press Drum or Drum Life until message changes
  6. Press Yes
  7. Press Home
