Latest Ink Cartridge Update – HP and Brother

HP Updates

HP has updated the chip on their HP63 and HP65 ink cartridges.  This ink cartridge update affects all printers manufactured from May 1 2018 on.  The new printers will not work with older generation cartridges even though the number on the cartridge is the same. This affects both genuine and compatible or remanufactured cartridges.  The main purpose of this update is to disrupt the supply of compatible and remanufactured cartridges.

From what we know the HP63 cartridge update has not affected any printers sold in New Zealand, but the HP65 cartridge update has.  Printers affected include the HP Deskjet 2600 series, HP Envy 5000 series, HP Officejet 5200 series and HP Ink Advantage 5000 series printers.  We have experienced compatibility problems with printers sold in New Zealand from November 2018 on.

We have good supply of the HP65 cartridges for the older printers and can supply genuine HP65 cartridges for the new printers.  When you purchase HP65 cartridges please email us the serial number of your printer so we can check compatibility with our cartridges. We expect to have the new cartridges available by the end of April 2019.

Brother Updates

Brother has updated the chips on their latest printers with an ink cartridge update.  We do not have clear details on when the update came into affect, but it seems to affect printers purchased in New Zealand from January 2019.  The cartridges affected are the LC3311 / LC3313XL and the LC3317 / LC3319XL cartridges. The printers affected include the Brother MFC-J491DW,  MFC-J890DW and DCP-J772DW that take the LC3313 cartridges.  Also affected are the MFC-J5330DW, MFC-J5730DW, MFC-J6530DW, MFC-J6930DW that take the LC3319 cartridges.

We now have the updated cartridges for the Brother printers available.
