Changes to HP61 Ink Cartridges

HP has made changes to its HP61 ink cartridges and there are now two “types” of the cartridge being sold. The difference being a updated electronic chip.  The older version will not work in recently released and future printers. (The same applies to older printers that have had a firmware update) The new version cartridges will work in any printer that takes HP61 cartridges.

As our HP61XL cartridges are Re-manufactured, their may be a delay in us being able to find a reliable supply of the new version cartridges.  We are attemptng to source only new cartridges when we purchase remanufactured cartridges.  We are also adding genuine HP61 cartridges to our website, these will be the new version cartridges and will work in all printers.

How to tell if you have the Old or New version cartridges: If you have some cartridges in storage or are buying new, check the “Warranty Ends” date on the back of the package. If there is a ‘v1’ several spaces to the right of the date, then the cartridge is the updated version. Or if you do not have the box then check the “Warranty Ends” date on the cartridge, if it’s 2014/04/01 or later, then the cartridge is the updated version.

Printers that accept the old version cartridges are as follows: HP Deskjet Series • Deskjet 1000 • Deskjet 1050 • Deskjet 1055 • Deskjet 2050 • Deskjet 3000 • Deskjet 3050 / 3050A

All other printers require the new version of the cartridge.  If you have any trouble with your HP61XL cartridges please let us know.
